1 Day Cu Chi - Ben Tre

From Ho Chi Minh City, the first stop of the Mekong Delta Tour is Cu Chi. It will take you about one-and-a-half-hour by bus. Before exploring the old tunnels, you will watch an introductory video about how the tunnels were built and how the Vietnamese army survived the difficult conditions of wartime. 

Then, tourists will spend time discovering the remaining areas and the Cu Chi tunnels system which contains special living areas with kitchens and bedrooms side by side with other martial facilities like weapons factories, field hospitals, and command centers helping those who lived in the Cu Chi tunnels meet their basic needs. 

Moreover, there are a lot of hidden trap doors and deadly traps in the maze-like tunnels for security purposes. Special tea and cassava (guerrillas’ food common in the war) will be served. Then we will have rest time before continuing our Mekong Delta 1 day tour.

Next, our tour guide from Asia Private Travels will pick you up in the private car as we head south for a Ben Tre Tour. We will visit the Ham Luong River (a run-off of the Mekong) and then take a boat tour. The group will stop at some of Ben Tre’s most famous handicraft workshops, where skillful workers fire bricks, process coconut into many different shapes, and weave mats with dried reeds and a big loom. Try the opportunity to weave your own mat under the guidance of an expert.

Then we will take a walk around a picturesque village and its beautiful, tropical surroundings. A local Xe Loi (motorized rickshaw) will take us into the jungle where we can discover exotic fruit orchards. Try the local specialties of elephant-ear fish and freshly caught river shrimp. 

Finally, we will spend the rest of the Mekong Delta trip on a sampan boat as we row through Ben Tre’s iconic backwaters. Don’t forget to bring your camera as the overhanging water palms and coconut trees make a magical ambiance that you will definitely want to save memory. 

You will be back in Ho Chi Minh City late in the afternoon.
